My Life Story - Part 1 - Background and Birth

I arrived in this world on Tuesday, April 10, 1973 at the Wakefield-Melrose Hospital just a few weeks after my mothers 21st birthday, proving that neither contraceptive creams nor shotgun weddings work but, I’ll get back to that.

My arrival interrupted my mothers lunch date for the grand opening of the Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant in Greenwood, MA. I was very fortunate when I was born to have 4 generations of family around me. While it probably wouldn't be as interesting now, it was of enough interest at the time that my christening on Mother’s Day was featured in the newspaper (seen above).

What I stated about contraceptive creams is accurate. I heard about it my whole life. I don’t think it was meant to hurt me, but it is hard growing up knowing you were a mistake or accident whatever you want to call it and being reminded of it on occasion.

As far as the shotgun wedding, that is an assumption on my part. While it is true that my mother was a couple months along with me at the time of her wedding, I’ve never really been given any more information than that. I believe she chose to marry my father for 2 reasons; one, that she did not have the funds or means to travel to New York and have another abortion; and second, that using her pregnancy to get my father to marry her, got her out of her parents house.  His reasons for marrying her are unknown to me and I could not even venture a guess with available information.

To hear my mother tell the story of her childhood, she was beaten daily, but no one in the family believes this. What I believe from all the stories I have heard and knowing my grandmother as I do after taking care of her for the last 7 years of her life is that my mother was raised in an emotionally neglectful household. Being an only child my mother alone or with relatives a lot while they attended functions. My Grandparents were extremely active in church, Grand Masons, Shiners, Eastern Star and all associated organizations.

My Grandfather (Gramps) was very submissive to my Grandmother (Nana). He would do whatever she said and spoiled her. My Nana was a very selfish woman who only had an interest in you if you were talking about her. It doesn’t matter what the conversation was about or who it was between, she would interject and find a way to point the conversation at her. Jerry & I were talking about Hurricane Katrina one day and she twisted it around to a story about her, and she’d never even been to New Orleans.

My grandmother was a drama queen and was the type of person that cared a great deal what others thought of her. She also expected to be waited on and served, so I have no doubt that my mother did not receive the type of emotional support, love and nurturing in her youth that children should receive. I think that is why she is such a narcissist now. Her ideas about family and love are very twisted.

As for my fathers side, he was one of many children.  I will try to name all my Aunts and Uncles, but for the most part I haven't seen or talked to them since I was about 7, so here goes; Barbara, Paul (dad), Patti, Kathy, Tommy, Bobby (Godfather), Joey, Jamie.  I think I'm forgetting someone, but I'm not sure.  My early memories of them consist of one of them drove a party van, always feeling grown up when the girls let me hang in their room and one of the boys collecting monster figurines.  I did have the pleasure of spending time with Uncle Joey and his family (1997 & 2000) and my Uncle Jamie's family(1997).  With the invention of Facebook I  am able to communicate with some of my father's side of the family, which makes me very happy on most days.

I don't really know a whole lot other than my Grandmother Patricia was a six pack for breakfast kind of alcoholic and died when I was six months old.  My Grandfather James soon thereafter married Grandma Patricia's best friend Judy which led to family rumors of a long term affair between them.  They remained married until his passing in the mid 90's and Aunt Judy followed him in 2010.  Even though I had not spoken to Judy in 15 years and had not seen her in 20, I was still hurt that in this age of electronic communication, no one told me she passed, but I'll touch more on that later.

Here are pictures of my mom and day when they were younger:

These are my mother's parents (I do not have any pictures other than the newspaper article of my father's):

Damn Double Standards!!

Heavy women, but not men, lack sex partners
Obese women 4 times likelier to have unplanned pregnancy than slim ones
By MARIA CHENG
AP Medical Writer

LONDON - Scientists say being fat can be bad for the bedroom, especially if you're a woman.
In a new study, European researchers found obese women had more trouble finding a sexual partner than their normal-weight counterparts, though the same wasn't true for obese men, and were four times as likely to have an unplanned pregnancy. Fat men also reported a higher rate of erectile dysfunction.

Experts interviewed nearly 10,000 French men and women aged 18 to 69 about their sexual experiences and analyzed the results based on their Body Mass Index.

Obese women were 30 percent less likely than normal-weight women to have had a sexual partner in the last year. In comparison, there was little difference among obese men and normal-weight men as to whether they found a sexual partner.

The results were published online Wednesday in the medical journal BMJ. The study was paid for by several French government agencies.

People with a BMI of 18-24 are considered to have a healthy weight. Those with a BMI of 25 or above are considered overweight and people with a BMI of 30 or more are classified as obese.

Previous studies have found similar trends, but researchers were surprised by the discrepancy they found between the genders as to how excess weight affects peoples' sex lives.

"Maybe women are more tolerant of tubby husbands than men are of tubby wives," said Kaye Wellings, a professor of sexual and reproductive health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and one of the BMJ study authors.

Experts said the problems faced by obese people were probably due to a combination of physical problems linked to obesity as well as other issues, like low self-esteem and social prejudices.

Obese people are at higher risk anyway for diabetes, depression and urinary stress incontinence, all of which can hinder sex. If people are extremely heavy, they might also have muscular or skeletal problems that make sex challenging.

The researchers found that obese women were less likely to ask for birth control services, and thus, four times more likely to accidentally get pregnant. Pregnant fat women and their babies also faced a higher risk of complications and death than normal-weight women.

Dr. Sandy Goldbeck-Wood, a specialist in psychosexual medicine at a London sexual health clinic, said physicians must talk to obese women about birth control.

"Doctors need to get over their own embarrassment and ask the difficult questions," she said. Goldbeck-Wood was not linked to the study but wrote an accompanying editorial in the BMJ.

Wellings and colleagues found obese men and women with a partner were no different from normal-weight people in terms of how often they had sex.

They also found that women tended to have partners with a similar body shape. Nearly 70 percent of fat women reported having a partner who was also heavy, while only about 40 percent of fat men had a similarly proportioned partner.

Some experts said the growing obesity epidemic in the West would worsen sexual dysfunction problems.
"This is not a heart attack or a stroke...but it's an important quality of life factor and a public health problem," said Dr. Andrew McCullough, an associate professor of clinical urology at New York University of Medicine and director of male sexual health at NYU's Langone Medical Center.

He said the study's findings should provide another reason for people to trim their waistlines.
"It seems like a no-brainer," he said. "If you lose weight, you will feel more attractive and that could improve your sex life."

Little long, but nice analogy for life

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling... It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.... Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you see.'

'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee.. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water .. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean ?

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Drunken Cuckoo Clock Joke

The other night I was invited out for a night with “the girls.” I told my husband that I would be home by midnight, “I promise!”

Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home.

Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution, in order to escape a possible conflict with him. (Even when totally smashed…3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos totals 12 cuckoos =MIDNIGHT!)

The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him “Midnight”. He didn’t seem mad at all. Whew! Got away with that one!

Then he said, “We need a new cuckoo clock.”

When I asked him, “Why?” he said, “Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said, “Oh Shit”, cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it’s throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted.”

No, I'm not a lesbian...

The last couple of nights I've found myself having trouble sleeping and ended up browsing friends albums on FB, and was amazed at how many beautiful women I know!  Now, you wouldn't be a friend if you weren't an absolutely gorgeous person inside and out, but I made a couple observations that I was in the mood to share.  Women spend so much time gossiping about negative things, I thought I'd share some of my positive observations.

I'm not going to use anyones names or other identifying info in the event they might be embarrassed (or ticked off).  If you figure out who are, give yourself a big kiss next time you look in a mirror.

Friend #1 - Is one of those women that I think came out of the womb looking fabulous without trying, has a great, effortless sense of style and has not changed at all from the day I met her until today.  She has discovered the fountain of youth.

Friend #2 - Went through an awkward, "pudgy" phase growing up, but has grown into a beautiful mother with hot figure and very "diva-esque" look that would give anyone on the red carpet a run for her money!

Friend #3 - Was a typical ROTC type nerdy chic like me in HS (I won't say which HS).  Looking back she was very plain (nothing wrong with that!) and while she probably doesn't conform to societies definition of beauty (bigger than a size 6, no long blonde hair, under 5' 7"), I see pictures of her now and I think she has grown into one of the most beautiful, girl next doors!  Fresh faced, very photogenic, I think she rolls out of bed in the morning looking great!

Friend #4 - Was very cute in HS.  She really hasn't changed much, but something about her face now has the look of maturity that has accentuated her cuteness and turned her into a true MILF!  I imagine her being the mom that makes all the teenage boys want to hang out at her house.

Friend #5 - has been going threw a metamorphises over the past year and her hard work is definately showing!  Every time she posts a new picture she inspires me to go to the gym!  She keeps looking more and more gorgeous!!  She has truly emerged a beautiful butterfly.

Though I am only mentioning a few of my friends here, I am proud to call all of you friends.  While some of us may not be photogenic (I fall into that category, I photograph terribly!!), we may not be as skinny as we were in HS and we may show the beginnings of crows feet; I think all my friends are beautiful and each posses something that makes them unique!  I love all you guys and couldn't ask for a more wonderful group of friends.

I know with all my sarcasm many of thing have trouble telling when I'm being sincere, I just wanted to take a minute to let you guys all know how much I appreciate all of you and what you have given to my life. Regardless of how often we get to see each other, you're always in my heart.

A Cell Phone Implanted Under Your Skin?!

Jim Mielke - Core77's Greener Gadgets Design Competition 2008

This is definately worth looking at. It's really kind of creepy in a Star Trek Cool kind of way!

Her cell phone is ringing, but the display is turned off. She lightly pushes a small dot on the skin on her left forearm to suddenly reveal a two by four inch tattoo with the image of the cell phone's digital display, directly in the skin of her arm. She answers the call by pushing a tattooed button on her arm. While she's talking, the tattoo comes to life as a digital video of the caller. When she finishes, the tattoo disappears.
This Bluetooth device is permanently implanted beneath the skin. It is flat, flexible, silicon and silicone. Tightly rolled when it's inserted through a small incision, and then unfurled beneath the skin, it lies benignly between skin and muscle.

How Children Are Used As Ammunition

Come on where's your pride? We all know this is a horrid, low and destructive way to behave. It's hard not to, so reading this might just help you to get a grip of your narcissism and rise above such harmful behavior.

This behavior not only has an impact on parents, but Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Siblings.

HOW CHILDREN ARE USED AS AMMUNITION

•Hijacking their important events

•Training them to take sides

•Putting them in the middle

•Using them as a confidant

•Burdening them with adult problems

•Exposing them to conflict

•Taking away the carefree, innocence that children have a right to

HOW PEOPLE MIGHT JUSTIFY IT

•This is their mess and I’m buggered if I am going to clear it up

•I didn’t want this its all her fault

•I told you the children would be badly affected and look they are

•I have someone new to replace you, you're no longer needed

WHY IS IT A RIDICULOUS NOTION?

•Children used in this way are having a miserable childhood

•Children who are treated in this way will grow up to be adults who will judge this behaviour unfavourably

•Children used in this way may develop self-esteem, communication and trust issues

•Children used in this way may grow up to be screwed up adults.

•This behavior is not consistent with good parenting

•Behaving like this will not make anything better, rather radically worse.

•By doing this you are jeopardizing your relationship with the children now and in the future

•Accept in the cold light of day that this is not only madness but cruel

•It is completely selfish

UNDERSTAND THE HARM IT DOES

Children are extremely observant, they notice and don’t forget and how you behave even in difficult situations. They will grow up and be in no doubt about who rose above the situation, who tried to make life easy and helped them to deal with it.
