Life Lessons Learned (some the hard way)

...wether you want it or not!
Some of these are humorous, some whimsical, but all are good pieces of advice.  Some just need to be taken with a grain of salt.
  1. Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

San Antonio Highland Games & Celtic Music Festival

Had a great time at the festival on Saturday(http://www.sahga.com/).  I'm glad we went for the bands early sets instead of waiting for the late ones.  By 4:00, the clouds had gone away and it was full sunshine.  Sounds nice?  I hate it!  It was 90 degrees and after 4.5 hours, I was dripping, my face was bright red and I was exhausted.

Romeo's 1st Celtic Rock Concert

This year had record crowds which was quite surprising since the Poteet Strawberry Festival was also this weekend and it is a MUCH bigger event.  I was disappointed upon hearing that.  The Strawberry Festival usually falls closer to my birthday, which is next Sunday, and Jerry & I were going to go this year since this is our last festival season in San Antonio.  Oh well.  We still have the Floresville Peanut Festival, Luling Watermelon Thump,

Rid Fleas the Affordable and Easy Way

Rid Fleas the Affordable and Easy Way

I have been a cat or dog owner since a very young age, so I've seen my fair share of fleas. A few months ago we introduced a months old Chihuahua pup to our home, which already had two dogs in it. Latte, the new pup, obviously brought the blood sucking baggage along because our two dogs now have them. So how does one rid fleas?

You may be tempted to rush out to your veterinarian for some prescribed repellant. Or, if you're one of the many misinformed, you scrambled to your local Walmart for an over-the-counter fix. How many of you know that you can't really rely on a retail store to help you rid fleas? I could remember years ago, like 12 or so, when those green shampoos actually did

Aarrgghhhh!!

Well it was a long day at work filled with anal, retentive, micro managing, over reacting, unnecessary stress.

So to help me relax when I came home, I redesigned my blog.  Let me know what you think!  Feedback and suggestions are always welcome, though maybe not appreciated (lol).

TIME FOR SOME BEJEWELED!
Then maybe I'll do some laundry. NOT!

I do have to get ready for the Celtic Music Festival tomorrow.  I look forward to this all year long.

How To Lose Body Weight Fast | LIVESTRONG.COM

Livestrong has a lot of useful articles, calculators and resources.  I have made some comments in red on the below article (original attached):

Overview
There are many ways to lose body weight fast. You can try diet pills, fad diets and fasting. These options, though they will enable you to lose weight quickly, can cause you a great deal of harm. It is better to choose a natural weight loss strategy as a safer alternative for quick weight loss. This process can by rewarding and quite simple.

Step 1

Cut your calorie intake. To lose 1 lb., you must create a 3,500-calorie deficit. You can easily do this by cutting down on high-fat, high-sugar foods. Cut sodas, cakes, cookies and fast food out of your diet. To help cut the calories and make sure I was eating a well balanced low calorie diet with plenty of protein, fiber and other nutrients as well as making sustainable changes in my eating habits, I signed up for http://www.myfooddiary.com/ .  At $9.00 a month and excellent customer service, I have learned quite a bit in the 6 weeks I have been seriously using it and have lost 5 pounds even though I don't use it on weekends and I have had some really bad days.  To read more about my experience with My Food Diary click here :  http://kissytina.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-food-diary.html

Step 2

Drink plenty of water--at least eight glasses per day--because water serves as an appetite suppressant that keeps your stomach full and fends off dehydration (which can cause false feelings of hunger).  My doctors always tell me to stay properly hydrated, you must drink 1 fluid ounce for every 2 pound of body weight.

Great week so far... Busy April planned

This week has been pretty good.  Jerry and I are laughing more than ever.  He's been so worried about me and he is adoringly protective.  The only times I've ever seen Jerry angry or protective is when you mess with his women (which means me or his mom).  I think this is going to be a great year for us and can't wait to see what happens.

After 3 months of fiddling with different dosages and times, the medication has finally started working without the side effects.  Jerry says I'm no longer doing the Riverdance in my sleep and the hand tremors have ceased almost completely!  Great!  I can hold a pen AND write legibly again.  Yay me!

Jerry's position with the county scored us Office 2010 Professional, Project 2010 and Visio 2010 for $30!  Couldn't beat that and now I can teach myself OneNote, Project and Visio to add to my resume.

Interesting Commentary about School Lunches, the amount of waste and the bubble our kids live in

School Lunches – USDA Slaps World in the Face San Antonio Current — Blogs

A recent lunch at my son’s school has my ever-weakening faith in the USDA at an all-time low.
Seeing the 5-gallon bucket of waste milk always makes me sick. I come from the era where kids were still taught to finish their food, to not waste and not take more than you knew you could actually eat.

Therein lies the problem. Not only are children required to take certain foods/amounts, but they are required to take milk. It’s like a big giant voice in the cafeteria saying, “The USDA counted all you kids, so there’s a milk for each of you, by golly. If you don’t want it, just dump it on your way out … along with the rest of your food.”  (However, parents can still pack their kid a lunch of jelly beans and Kool-Aid and no one would bat an eye.)

My Food Diary

In addition to joining (and using) Planet Fitness, I wanted to make some changes to my eating habits as well.  In pursuit of that goal I tried out several websites to track what I'm eating and tell me what's good and bad about what I'm doing so I could make gradual changes so after I get into shape it will be maintainable.

You might as well eat this!

If you order this...

I didn't want to spend an enormous amount of money, if any at all, but I was willing to fork over about $10 a month if I found the right tool.  I signed up Jan 1 for about 4 sites that looked good.  Weight Watchers, while popular, was out before the trial because

Crazy Stanley Forgets to Jump

Poor doggy! Our dogs will go nuts like this sometimes, but usually they just twist their head into the carpet and do somersaults.

Romeo is bad about this.  If you just look at him when you find something, his tail goes between his legs and he goes outside to pout in the dog igloo
